Breaking down

Yesterday, Mike and I decided to hop on the scooter, get some "fresh" air, and see some of the sights in Delhi that we have neglected. First, we headed to the Qutab Minar. It is practically right behind campus, and you can see it from our hostel. Still, we hadn't been in our six months here. Kinda sad.

The QM is a giant 74-ish metre stone pillar. It was built in the 15th century by some Muslim ruler or other. It was pretty cool, and there were all kinds of ruins around the site. The highlight was the fresh batch of puppies (pictures eventually). One of them had a tick in its eye, which after much whimpering and chasing I managed to remove.

After the QM, we decided to check out some of the mosques and temples in the area. However, midway through our adventure the bike seized up and quit. Mike concluded that it was out of oil, so our final adventure for the day was trying to find 2T motor oil.

Fun stuff. I'm not going to Varanasi for field research. I'll write more about this tomorrow when I am back in the office and even more frustrated, but I think I'll have much more time to see the sights after this Friday.
