A slow roast

Today the temperature crested at around 44 degrees. There is just no relief from that type of heat. The office where I work is air-conditioned, but the hallways, kitchen area, and bathroom are all exposed to the outside temperature. You don't realise how much effort you expend on the pot until you're dripping sweat after only 30 seconds. Wiping is a futile effort, it's soggy again in two minutes.

At this temperature, you give up trying to smell good and not be sweaty. The funny thing is, I thought I would be much more miserable than I have been in this weather. Physics built a home-made cooler for my window, and that makes sleeping at night quite comfortable. I guess this is the distinction between "humid heat" and "dry heat." I'm just glad it hasn't hit the 47 that it was in Orissa yesterday. I hear it's blowing this way.

I'm off to lounge in the pool.
