At what point is it ok

Last night everybody in the program that is here so far met for dinner. I think the number of students still stands at 19. During dinner, one of the people I was sitting near made a joke about how our professor, Dr. Welz, should sell our program as a television show. That was when a though occurred to me. This really is the real Real World.

Ok, so intstead of eight strangers we will be 31, and instead of doing nothing practical and complaining about our love lives (though I expect there will still be some of that) we will be working toward a defined endpoint. Still, the similarities are striking, and I'm beginning to think we may experience much of the same drama that you see on the contrived MTV series.

Already last night a few issues were broached that I thought it better to stay out of for the time being. Individual personalities are beginning to appear, and already they are colliding. Not that there was a specific conflict, just that it became apparent there will be some tension in the future.

Once the academic program begins, I expect our relationships to intensify, for better or worse, and it is important to bear in mind that I will be spending the next two years with these people, also for better or worse. People get married nowadays will less committment than that, and they usually know each other first.

So get ready MTV, this should be one doozy of a season!
