Blogs were recently used as the focus of a study. Amazing, huh? Not really. But I suppose it is interesting to a geek like me.
I read a book quite some time ago by Malcom Gladwell. It was called The Tipping Point. In it, he theorizes about the spread of knowledge in social circles, and uses as a case study specific social "movements" that have happened over the years. He blames the spread of information on three groups of people: connectors, mavens, and salesmen. For awhile, I deluded myself to thinking I was a "connector." Later, I resigned that it just wasn't the case. At any rate, I digress.
Researchers at Hewlett Packard Labs recently conducted research on the spread of information through the blog-o-sphere, and they discovered a very similar phenomenon. In their findings, the HP researchers found that information generally starts on lesser-known, little-read blogs and works its way upward. Goofy, huh?
So, it's geeky and all that, but I thought it was a fun little tidbit of info. It could be said that "if a mariposa flaps it's wings in Minneapolis..."
