I saw Lost in Translation last night. I'm still not sure how I felt about it, but I will say this much: it was one of those movies that I leave feeling like I'm just not "artsy" enough to get it. I was kinda, well, bored.
There are some really interesting representations of race in the movie, and I'm also not sure how I felt about those. There was some commentary on Japenese culture, but I think (perhaps unintentionally) something was also said about we Americans. I need to look into it before I say too much, but I did just read an interesting article about the racist undertones of the movie. Check it out HERE.
On a lighter note for you locals out there, I saw a teriffic show at the Old Log theater tonight. It was called Out Of Order. Described as:
A textbook model of pyramiding lunacy and an inspired machine designed to cater for one of civilized society's greatest joys, which is to see someone else in the soup!
Tons of fun. You should go see it if you feel you've been deprived of good community theater. It was a perfect family night out.

Since it was my idea to take Mark to this movie, I feel I should contribute my reaction to this film. Unfortunately, I personally fell asleep into this not so "sleeper" of a hit. Sorry Mark, I knew we should have seen Triplets of Belleville.
