Being "hip" was hip for what, like five minutes? Why the turn? And why is the Bennifer now the enemy? We saw Janet's boob, and suddenly ER is censored? I suspect that these three things are related.
Let's evaluate:
We were obsessed with the Bennifer. Where were they? Was the wedding happening? Oh, that was so last summer
Trucker hats. Ashton had one. He punk'd people. That was hot. Watching celebrities completely lose their cool. Beautiful.
Suddenly, jLo announces a split. Benny is in Vegas, and jLo is chillin' in Miami. In move the Fab Five, and out go the trucker hats.
Now we have this new term: "metrosexual." This marked the beginning of the end for the hipster. There was a hot new thing, and it involved washing your hair more than once a week. Hugh Jackman became the hero of Broadway, and Ashton hooked up with Demi. So not hip, too cool.
The last straw: Justin apologizes on the Grammys. What does this have to do with anything? Here's a hint: JT, once a boybander, now has a soaring solo career. He wears trucker hats, the embodiment of "hip," but he dances well and is suave with the ladies, the embodiment of the "metrosexual." He was a line rider, until Sunday. With his simple apology, he killed any defiant hipness that remained.
The trucker hat is gone, the Bennifer is done, and the hipster is so yesteryear.
