To this point I've refrained from adding my two cents to the DRM/iTunes/pay-per-song services, but now is the time. A monument of inefficiency.
Apple's online service, iTunes, is one of the more popular services out there. They usually charge a buck for a DRM-protected music file. Not too bad, if you think about it. Still DRMming is obsurd. People want to copy their music. They want it to be versitile, transportable, interchangeable, and flexible. Remember LaserDiscs? That's the don't.
When I buy a new player (the hot microscopic, fiber-optic number) in 5 years, I want all the music I've accumulated thus far to be playable on it. And I don't want to be limited to specific models because my music is coded in one format over another. It just isn't logical anymore.
Icing on the cake...
iTunes is now selling silence at 99 cents a pop. Yep. Silence. Even better, it's DRM encoded! Check out the link HERE (thanks BoingBoing).
