ML is a writer who has lived all about the world, has had multitudes of interesting jobs in interesting places, makes all who know her within six degrees of Michael Moore and a former Ms. Switzerland, and she has had far too many marriages.

Amanda is brillant (ML's words), wears lipstick beautifully, thinks too much for most people's tastes, and knits--which tends to surprise people given her propensity for get back stares and black boots.

Despite their 29 year age difference, ML and Amanda have deep, abiding, mutual respect for each other. They are prone to falling into fits of inappropriate giggles in public. ML has convinced Amanda that hedonism is the ultimate goal in life, and Amanda has convinced ML that thongs should be worn in the pursuit of hedonistic pleasures.
